Apply for DigiD if you live abroad
You are applying for a DigiD online from abroad. Afterwards, you will recieve a counter code, which is valid for 30 days. Take this counter code with you to your appointment at the municipality. You will recieve a code to activate your DigiD at the municipality.

Conditions
- You live abroad.
- You have a valid passport or identification card.
- You have a citizen service number (BSN).
- You are registered in the Register of Non-Residents (RNI). There is at least 15 minutes between the registration in the RNI and your appointment.
- You have a mobile phone.
- You have an email address.
- You have to come to the counter to activate your DigiD in person. You cannot autherize someone else to do this.
Step-by-step plan
- Request a DigiD through the DigiD website
- Remember your username and password
- You will receive a counter code (this is valid for 30 days)
- Go to your appointment at the municipality
- You will receive your DigiD activation code at the municipality
- Enter your activation code on the DigiD website or the app
Take with you to your appointment
- Your 9 digit counter code.
- Your DigiD username and password.
- Your passport or identificationcard. A driver’s license is not allowed.
- The phone with the phonenumber and e-mail address that you used for the application.
- Your citizen service number (BSN).
